Planning a photoshoot?
Wahoo! How exciting! The number one question I receive after booking a session is "WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR?" To help answer that popular question, I prepared a Style Guide that includes my top tips to help you pick your outfits with confidence. My hope is to inspire you as you select your outfits for your upcoming shoot!
The list of Dont's is actually pretty small! - Don't wear large logos, neon colors, or baggy clothes, and do not try to match everyone in the session. The Do list can be pretty long, but that is because there are SO many options that are photo approved and make clients look fantastic in photos.
Wear neutral colors - For a good reason, almost all photographers recommend neutral colors when it comes to photos. Colors like white, creams, tans, blacks, blues, or caramels are perfect for any photo session! The reason for avoiding bright and bold colors is because it can create a "color glow' on faces, and can distort the photo. Keep in mind that almost all colors have neutrals in them. If you have a specific color you love, don't be afraid to wear it. Just remember when looking for your desired color that you should look for something more mildly hued rather than bright and bold.
Wear different textures rather than patterns - This is a big one! Knits, cottons, leathers, jeans, corduroy the different fabrics and all the different textures! (For example, texture every two solids.)
Males commonly wear colored slacks or dark-wash jeans, while little girls and infants should wear bloomers under dresses, and pick accessories that tie everything together.
Wear outfits that compliment each other -Focus more on wearing complimenting color tones to each other rather than exact matches. Pick a color palette and switch it around within' the family. If you need help with this, feel free to reach out to me!
It's good to keep in mind where you are shooting in order to pair what you're wearing. For example, if we're shooting in a grass field, try to avoid wearing all green. Likewise, if we are shooting at the beach, try to avoid wearing all tan.
Wear or bring layers with you - For more variety in photos, it helps to bring layers with you. Layers can help break up the photos and give more of an organic look to the photos. Example of layer would be a loose cardigan, belt, or blanket to drop around shoulders.
Wear flowy clothes - This certainly isn't a rule, form fitting clothes can also look incredible, but consider some items that are flowy. I absolutely love photographing flowy dresses or skirts because they make for amazing photos and give you the option to twirl, throw, and spin that dress around.
Wear comfortable clothing - Wear something you feel comfortable and confident in! Having everyone comfortable will help everyone enjoy their time and loosen up. With the kids wearing something comfortable, we can catch their movement and have more candid moments with your family!
